Master’s degree in Research in Fundamental Biology and Biomedicine

Analysis of drugs, carbohydrates, and phenolics

analisis farmacos

The course’s main objective is to know the different techniques for detection, separation, purification and/or quantification of molecules of biological interest, mainly drugs and/or drug metabolites, carbohydrates and phenolics. The study and application of different methodologies as immunoassays, infrared spectroscopy, spectrophotometric methods and chromatographic methods, including gel filtration, thin layer chromatography, gas chromatography and HPLC (with use of different detection systems ) will be emphasized. All these techniques are widely used in the isolation and purification of valuable products for chemical and pharmaceutical industries as well as biotechnology and biochemistry. Also, on a practical level, students not only learn how to prepare samples according its origin, how to perform the extraction and pre-purification of different compounds, etc .., but they will check the real problems users may encounter in carrying out some of the techniques mentioned above.
